Shopping for a Good Cause

The "Evening of Giving" will be on Nov. 19 and will benifit such charities as the Boys and Girls club, ARC, the Simon Youth Foundation and Mercy House
With the holidays quickly approaching, the Harrisonburg Valley Mall is providing an opportunity to save money on holiday gifts and donate to charity at the same time.
You can participate this upcoming Sunday, Nov. 19, when the Harrisonburg Valley Mall hosts an "Evening of Giving" from 6-9 pm. This event allows college students (even the broke ones) to shop at the stores in the mall, which will be having huge Black Friday-type sales.Profits from the night will help charities as well.
A $10 entrance ticket gets you into the mall, 100% of which will go to charities and youth foundations in Harrisonburg, such as The Simon Youth Foundation. Why pay $10 to get into the mall, you might ask? Not only will participants be supporting local charities, they will also have access to all the stores in the mall, which promise to hold some of the biggest sales of the year. Everyone must purchase his or her entrance ticket ahead of time to shop.
The "Evening of Giving" also includes carriage rides, carolers, and booths set up in the mall from the local charities who are participating. This is a great opportunity for the 'burg to come together to help others. Think of it as shopping for good sales, and a great cause.
Senior Brenna Beck, who is working on promoting the event at EMU through her internship at the Mercy House, says, "As both an intern and a student, I know what it's like to see both worlds-to be a broke college student, but also to work with people who can't even afford a place to live, much less Christmas gifts for their kids. It's important to me to spread these kinds of opportunities-an entire community deciding to take something normal, like shopping, and make it profitable to those in need."
