Player of the Week: Meghan Hershey

The clock had reached 0:00, and the scoreboard read: Franklin & Marshall 0, EMU 0. With no time remaining in regulation, the Royals were awarded a penalty corner; guaranteeing them at least one more scoring opportunity.
When a penalty corner is called, the defense must clear the ball before the game is over. Or, a goal must be scored. Sophomore Meghan Hershey took the corner, playing the ball to Kristina Landis, who ripped a shot on goal. As panic ensued in the goal mouth, Franklin & Marshall couldn't clear, and Hershey capitalized. "I just tapped it in," said Hershey of her shot, and the game was over. After a dominant second half performance, Hershey was the hero.
Hershey would follow up her performance with another solid outing on Saturday the 23rd; scoring two goals for the Royals in a 6-0 win over conference opponent Sweet Briar. As of September 25th, she has five goals on the season and has been chosen as our athlete of the week.
Off the hockey field, Hershey serves in the SGA senate, writes for the Weathervane, and is a member of Res Judicata. She is working on a history major with minors in sociology, political science, and pre-law. "I think history can teach us a lot," says Hershey. "We learn what we need to do now to help for the future."
EMU currently stands at 4th place in the ODAC standings, and will look to move up on Saturday when they host Roanoke at 2:00 p.m. Another last minute win would be exciting in front of a home crowd, but the Royals will no doubt come out looking to score early.
