Activate This: Activism for the College Student Here and Now

By Jen Ruth and Carrie Keagy

March 16 marks the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq, so the coalition Christian Peace Witness for Iraq is sponsoring an evening of . . . you guessed it: Christian peace witness!

EMU will be taking a 58-passenger bus to D.C. for students, faculty, and community members. The bus leaves at 3 p.m. for the Friday night activities, which begin at 7 p.m. with an ecumenical worship service in the National Cathedral (which you must register for in order to get a seat). After the worship service, participants will proceed 2 1⁄2 miles to the White House in candlelight, where a prayer vigil and witness for peace will be organized. The bus will return late Friday night. I've already registered and reserved my spot on the bus and can testify to the ease of the entire process. The Christian Peace Witness for Iraq coalition offers a wonderful opportunity to join together with other Christians of all denominations who share a similar goal and perspective on the war in Iraq. With EMU's cheap transportation (just $5-$15 round-trip to D.C.) and promotion of this event, you don't need to worry about finding a ride, looking for parking, or paying a lot of money for gas.

Although March 16 is far away, it's important to register ahead of time to reserve both a spot on the bus and a seat at the National Cathedral.

Register on the coalition's website:

In addition to registering, let EMU know if you want a ride by contacting Julia Gingrich at julia.gingrich@emu.edu.
