Letter to the Editor

By The Reading Public

Dear Weather Vane Editors,

First of all, I want to thank Mel for her last two comics of PB and Baptist Girl. I am glad that someone else voices their opinions and concerns about the Mennonite faith, so thanks, Mel. I wrote an article last semester about politics, but I want to write one this time about war. One thing that really bothers me about this [Mennonite] faith and a lot of people's beliefs is the lack of respect. A lot of people in this country are risking their lives and leaving their family and everything else behind for your freedom, as well as mine.

Personally, I was going to go into the Army Reserves until EMU pretty much told me they wouldn't accept the money. What an insult; what a disgrace! I know a lot of you will be quick to say that you support the troops, but not the war. In my opinion, that's a contradiction and a load of crap. I'm not saying that we should turn to war every time there is a problem but in this particular situation, peace talks and treaties aren't going to get the job done. We might not be seeing the results now, but I guarantee you that unfortunately, war is more then peace would do. I am personally not only getting sick of the bashing of the war, Bush, and our government, but I am also offended. Like Mel, my family members have been in wars and I would be too, but I'm here. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion but please have some respect and take this into consideration. You people that are protesting have the right to do this because of people fighting for your freedom, and you repay them with this? They are giving you these rights and you just don't show respect.

Please stop the criticism and at least show respect.

-Mallory Watson

P.S. Please don't attack me personally regarding my religion and religious views, as was done last time by a certain person; you don't know me! Comments and thoughts are welcome.
