YPCA Service Day on Saturday
Saturday will be Fall Service Day for the Young Peoples' Christian Association. Students will be working for faculty members who submitted jobs to YPCA. There will be three 4-hour shifts and hours will qualify for FYS community service. Money donated by faculty in exchange for the work will go to other YPCA programs.
Update: Prioritization moves into creative process
On Oct. 31 the Prioritization Steering Committee held a meeting in a "fish-bowl" format where faculty, staff and several students listened and responded to a proposal for the next phase of the prioritization process. The proposal divided the committee into work teams where PSC members will work with departments related to the areas in which they normally work. The teams will develop tentative recommendations for the areas of Undergraduate Programs, Co-Curricular Programs, Administration, and Graduate, Seminary and Adult Programs. A fifth category of External Programs has since been redistributed into the other categories.
Questions were raised about opportunities for student involvement and further guidelines for financial goals. The proposal was tentatively passed with the understanding that both of these issues would receive further attention. President Loren Swartzendruber has assembled a team to address specific financial goals, and several of the groups have taken steps to invite student participation in the form of student representatives.
Since the meeting, the various groups have spent time perusing reports, discussing approaches, and, in the case of the Co-Curricular Programs group, beginning to meet with various department heads.
