Katie Grove performed in the Common Grounds on Thursday, Oct. 13. Her relaxed style and light interaction connected with an attentive audience.

If you like Michelle Branch or Jewel, then you should have been at the Common Grounds to hear Katie Grove as she sang original songs and covered a few recognizable singers.

This past Thursday night, the Common Grounds was filled with the sounds of local singer and songwriter Katie Grove. Grove, of the Katie Grove Band, is a student at EMU and this was her second time performing in the coffeehouse. The free concert started at 9 p.m., and was attended by students, faculty, and community members.

The general feel of the audience was rather calm and relaxed as audience members listened attentively to Grove as she performed. At one point in the concert, Grove mentioned how quiet the audience was. She interacted with the audience after each song she sang while often making little jokes or observations. One example of this interaction was when EMU president Loren Swartzendruber and his wife showed up toward the end and Grove commented on how late they were.

Grove mixed up her original songs with her covers well and there was never any confusion as to whose music she was playing since she introduced each song prior to performing it. Audience members seemed to really interact with Grove and enjoy her music.
