During a coffee house for Alcohol Awareness Week, Jaime Mims and Becka Rankin explain myths and facts about alcohol to a group of approximately 20 students. Ken L. Nafziger, director of student life, and Ellen Miller, director of housing and resident life also attended the event. According to Nafziger, EMU will be taking part in national alcohol and drug survey organized by SIU Carvendale to assess the use at EMU in comparison to other schools. EMU has participated in this survey twice before, the last time being six years ago with results indicating that EMU had significantly less on and off campus drinking and other drug use compared to the national average. Nafziger expects the results of this survey to reflect how much society has changed and how much Mennonite culture has changed in the last six years since college culture mirrors what goes on in the broader communities. Alcohol Awareness Week also included a display in the Campus Center where students could write brief reflections on how alcohol had impacted them or someone they know.
