For the past three years, I have avoided the opinion page. There is a place for opinion and a place for news, and I preferred to deal with news.

Earlier this year, the Academic Council passed a proposal that will require all students, beginning with next year's freshman class, to satisfy the elementary level of study in a foreign language.
