Dialogue/Hewar price break

Campus Activities Council announced Monday that they would be offering a 50 percent discount to the first 100 students buying tickets at the door for the Dialogue/Hewar Concert. The Tuesday night concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and features a professional group from Damascus, Syria. The group comes to EMU as part of their "Concert for Peace Tour." Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and children age 5-12 and are available by calling the EMU box office, 540-432-4582.

YPCA aiming for $2000

As of Wednesday evening, the Young People's Christian Association had raised $1,500 for Hurricane Relief. They are within $500 of their goal of sending at least $2,000 to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) to allocate to Mennonite Disaster Services (MDS). Volunteers have been collecting donations after chapels and outside the cafeteria during lunch and dinner. Donations can also be made in the Harzler Library or directly to MCC.

Speaker addresses oil politics

Oscar Canas Fajerdo of Colombia will speak this Sunday, Sept. 25, in Common Grounds on the relation between oil and U.S. military policies in Iraq, Colombia, and Venezuela, all nations with significant oil reserves. A labor union advisor and frequently quoted political analyst, Fajerdo is touring the Mid-Atlantic Region with Witness for Peace. This event is being co-sponsored by the Anabaptist Center for Religion & Society, the Center for Justice & Peacebuilding, Mennonite Central Committee, Justice, Peace & Conflict Studies and Peace Fellowship.

Children sing in Martin Chapel

The voices of 70 children ages 15 and younger filled Martin Chapel for several hours on Saturday as the Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir gathered to sing. There are five separate choirs within the group, which meets on EMU's campus. The day was a retreat for these nationally known kids that have traveled as far as Hawaii to sing. EMU student Bethany Blouse is interning with the choir (see next week's feature article), which is a part of the university's music program but does not receive funds from EMU.

D.C. anti-war mobilization

This Saturday, Sept. 24, students will go to Washington, D.C. to protest the war and demand the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq. A van will depart at 8 a.m. from the Commons.
