YPCA Offers Places to Serve

How will you be involved on campus next year? Do you want to connect with people through service without taking a semester off from school? Consider a leadership position in YPCA.

Young People's Christian Association (YPCA) is one of the outreach organizations led by students that gives opportunities for students to serve on and off-campus. YPCA currently has openings for Co-president, Secretary, Treasurer, Grandparent Adoption Commissioner, and Y-trip Commissioner.

The current co-presidents are Jenee High and Eliza Barnhart. After serving her yearlong term, High is passing on the torch If you have a passion to see where students are led to serve, you can pair up with Eliza Barnhart as a Co-president for the coming year. Co-presidents run meetings and have contact with the faculty advisor, Brian Martin Burkholder. They focus on the movement of YPCA and the needs of the EMU community for service outreach.

The inner workings of YPCA have been held together by Secretary Denae Eshleman, who takes notes at meetings, does research for revising documents, and helps organize and promote the process of YPCA. This position of Secretary takes on the universal role of paper work and note taking, but YPCA values the opinions and ideas the Secretary brings to the Officers' table.

The Treasurer position will be left vacant by Trevor Bare, who jumped on board to help with fund-raising and the Y-trip budgets. The Treasurer helps keep the budget in check and has a good standing with the Business Office with making deposits.

YPCA's branches of service are called Commissions, and one Commission that focuses on our elderly neighbors at VMRC is Grandparent Adoption. This Commission is saying good-bye to its leader, Emily Benner, who has served for two faithful years. This leadership position involves willingness for organization and passion for bridging to generation gap.

The most well known Commission of YPCA is Y-trips, also known as Spring Break trips. Ariel Ressler will be stepping down from her position next fall after a wonderful year of service to the leaders and students. Someone who would step into this position should have a passion for service and learning in-group settings and helping to organize group events.

If you, or someone you know, would enjoy being in leadership with YPCA, contact the officers of YPCA by emailing ypca@emu.edu with your interests or recommendations.

If you are just interested in what has happened this past year in YPCA and its Commissions, the Commissioners are throwing an "End-of-the-Year Party" for all students who have participated in a Commission of YPCA. This is open to anyone who wants to learn more about what YPCA is all about. There will be refreshments and stories from the year along with some friendly competitions. Come up to the hill in the Discipleship Center on April 22 at 7 p.m.
