Sophomore Ethan Fry rose to the occasion in two different volleyball matches over the weekend and in return earns Player of the Week honors.

Revenge was on the minds of the EMU men's volleyball squad this weekend, and that is what they got in Philadelphia on Saturday. The Royals took the court in the first game of a tri-match against Nazareth College, ranked 10th in the nation. Nazareth defeated EMU by a score of 3-2 a week earlier in Rochester, NY. Fry led the attack for the Royals with 12 kills and 2 service aces en route to a 3-0 victory over the Golden Flyers. Head Coach Steve Benson said of the bounce-back victory, "It was nice to play the team again this weekend. We worked on different things during the week between the matches and it was exciting to implement those ideas and strategies and have them work to help us get a win against Nazareth."

In EMU's second match of the day, they played against host Philadelphia Biblical University. Once again, Fry did not disappoint. In the Royals' second straight 3-0 victory he had 13 kills, 3 service aces, and 8 digs. The transfer from Guatemala City, Guatemala, has been a great addition to the EMU team for their goal of a conference championship and a national tournament appearance. Coach Benson said, "[Fry] brings the ability to play three positions on the front row at a high level. He has great athletic ability, loves the game and shows it on the court with his excitement when playing and willingness to work hard in practice."

Fry gave a lot of credit for his success over the weekend to the quality play of his teammates by saying, "The team played well as a whole. I do not think I played better than anyone else did on the team. I mean when our middles are blocking balls and [sophomore setter Ben Yoder] is setting a perfect ball the least I can do is try to kill it." Remember to support the volleyball team by purchasing EMU Volleyball t-shirts for $10 as they prepare to compete in Florida over spring break.
