Letter to the Editors:

Disappointed at injustice

As a student, I am disappointed and perturbed that Professor Ken Roth will not remain on the faculty at EMU after this year. For those of us who have either had Ken in class, or who have been here long enough to know him personally, we know that he is not only a good teacher, but also a person committed to living out his Christian faith. And he does this -- regardless of the confines of an institution that purportedly affirms living true to one's faith and calling, but then punishes those who dare to step out in faith....through "soft" firing, or, in more PC/EMU terms, deciding not to "recommend a new contract."

Perhaps I'm making assumptions regarding the truth behind why Ken will not be returning, but what else has my education at EMU (notorious for pursuing peace and justice through faith) taught me to do, but to question the situations of injustice around me? It is all too obvious that Ken was not recommended for a new contract because of his open support of homosexuals -- not because of his teaching abilities.

Ken, thank you. For unapologetically -- but sensitively -- speaking out for what you believe. Your passion has not gone unnoticed!
