Player of the week: Amanda Renalds
This week's featured player is Amanda Renalds, a four-year starter on the EMU women's basketball team.
Renalds, a senior from Bridgewater, Va., is a center for the Lady Royals. Last week she was named both ODAC Player of the Week and Tournament MVP in the EMU Tip-Off Tournament, which took place on Nov. 18-19. In addition to collecting 34 points and 15 rebounds throughout the tournament, she reached the 1,000-point mark in her career in the women's season opener against Ferrum College. Renalds said of her achievement, "Scoring my 1000th point was amazing. It was a personal goal I had set for myself when I started playing college ball since I never scored 1000 in high school."
In EMU's game against Roanoke College on Tuesday, Renalds led both teams in scoring with 24 points, and had seven rebounds. These bring her season totals to 79 points and 32 rebounds.
Renalds says she is looking forward to the team growing closer and continuing to play with the team chemistry that has already developed. The team is young, she said, but the players are "coming together very well with the new coaching staff. I am having a blast my senior year so far and I see nothing but good things in our future."
