CAC ready to Deck the Hall
This Friday students are invited to participate in traditional Christmas activities of decorating cookies, making candles, and ornamenting a tree in the Campus Greeting Hall for the CAC "Deck the Hall" event. CAC member Sylvia Hooley, who made the christmas cookies over Thanksgiving break, said there will be hot chocolate and Christmas music to set the mood.
Nuns needed for theater production
Theater major Elizabeth Risser will be directing the EMU production of "Nunsense," a musical comedy written by Dan Goggin about the exploits of five eccentric nuns. She is currently seeking five musically-inclined females to portray the sisters. Auditions will be held Monday, Dec. 5 and Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ladies should come with a prepared song and will be asked to read. Performances will be in February.
Bringing music to the people
Next Wednesday EMU musicians will fill the Common Grounds with music ranging from classical Beethoven to arrangements from rock artists like Led Zeppelin. The Evening of Chamber Music on Dec. 7 will feature a variety of chamber music groups that have been active on campus this semester: a woodwind quintet (Joshua Akers, Alison Fletcher, Maria Hoover, April Miller, and Kristin Swartley), Piano Trio (Nate Bontrager, Kara Glick and Jonathan Keener) and String Quartet (Christian Anderson, Nate Bontrager, Bebhinn Egger, and Kara Glick). Bontrager, who organized the event, described the Common Grounds as a "nice new venue" for chamber music. "We believe in taking music to the people," said Joan Griffing, chair of the music department. To this end, Griffing said there have been discussions about showing up in dorm rooms or the cafeteria to share the music rather than just expecting people to come to concerts.
