As the sun rises...
Another semester begins and already we're in over our heads. We wanted to put an issue out early this year as our way of welcoming students back and giving people a heads-up about what's going on here. It was the best of intentions, and the worst of mistakes.
Okay, so it didn't really hurt more than our pride. The difficulties we encountered highlighted our severest weaknesses. We are not perfect; we cannot do everything. Not without help, and not in three days.
Nevertheless, we persevere.
Because the Weather Vane isn't all about stress. It's about knowing what goes on around campus and a little farther out. It's about wanting to share that knowledge with others. It's about story and investigation, being able to walk up to the president or the provost or that award-winning student and ask the important questions. It's about seeing the angles and separating rumor from truth.
We didn't expect it to be easy, but we come back because it's important. We come to relax on the couches on Monday evenings and eat pizza while we talk and laugh and share ideas. We come on Wednesday nights for the stresses and 4 a.m. bedtimes that come with putting the paper together. It's not easy, but maybe it's worth it.
We know what we're requiring of ourselves--what do we ask of you? To read the paper. To get involved. To absorb the knowledge that we've shared with you in publishing the news from the campus, the community, and beyond.
So here's to another semester of the Weather Vane...may it be exciting, rewarding, and full of news. Oh, and maybe a few hours of sleep somewhere.
