Shirley Yoder resigned as vice president for enrollment and marketing effective August 31. Yoder began working at EMU in December 2000, and is leaving for "deeply personal" reasons. Yoder said she was proud of they way her team had worked to present EMU more professionally as a school of quality with much to offer, and is now at a phase where she wants to slow down her pace. "I'm going to be happily unemployed for a while," said Yoder.
Junior Kendra Nissley joined some 50 students from 14 countries in a conference to discuss the differences between the United States and Europe. Participants focused on differences in politics, economics, culture and foreign policy. The conference was held in Koszeg, Hungary, in May and was hosted in part by Brethren Colleges Abroad.
Robert Yoder, EMU professor emeritus of biology, died Saturday, August 29, after a year-long illness. The funeral was held Tuesday, August 30. Yoder taught biology at EMU for 32 years before retiring in 1995. He then worked as a lab technician in the science department until his health began to decline. Yoder was the father of Campus Center custodian Kimberly Yoder.
