Letter to the Editors:
Thanks to Twila Yoder
On Wednesday evening, I had the unfortunate and embarrassing experience of having my purse stolen from my unlocked car. Apparently, two young men took the purse up the hill and rifled through it in the bushes. They took my checks and my driver's license. Thankfully, I'm broke, so there wasn't much else there.
What makes the situation noteworthy is that someone saw these boys mid-theft and was conscientious enough to try to intervene (even though she was walking alone). She actually followed the boys for some distance, and then spent hours trying to right the situation. She not only notified campus security, but searched through the Campus Center to find me, offered to drive me to my house, and retraced the boys' steps in an effort to recover the stolen items (which she did).
I'm always surprised when things like this happen on our quiet little campus. And even though I get the same emails everyone else does, I am ashamed to say I leave my car unlocked more often than not. However, it's nice to know that the good, kind people I think exist really do, and sometimes they're around just when you need them. So, after a long evening, I have a little less faith, and a little more faith, in humankind. Thanks, Twila Yoder.
