Ladies' soccer shuts out Hollins
Sophomore Vanessa Rice collected three goals and one assist while freshman Aubrey Bauman added one goal and two assists as Eastern Mennonite University shutout Hollins University 7-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match in Harrisonburg, Va.
With the victory, EMU improves to 4-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the ODAC. Hollins falls to 1-7 overall, 0-6 in conference games.
Bauman ignited a stretch of five EMU goals in nine minutes with an unassisted goal at 8:06. Rice followed with consecutive unassisted breakaway goals at 10:20 and 12:58. Freshman Destiny Peshina knocked in a header off a corner from Bauman at 14:08, and Rice closed the run with a goal at 16:42 assisted by Bauman. Senior Kendra Martin added a sixth first-half goal at the 38-minute mark on her own rebound. EMU added one goal in the second half at the 50:11 mark from junior Christy Hurst, assisted by Rice.
Sophomore Joy Shaiebly pick up her fourth shutout of the year in goal with three saves for EMU. Freshman Leah Jackman had four saves for Hollins in the first half while junior Lindsay Lucas had five saves in the second half. EMU led in shots 31-3 and corners 10-2.
On Saturday the Lady Royals will host the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC match at 1:00 p.m. The game is part of EMU Homecoming activities.
