Athletic director Martin resigning?
Sports personnel refute DNR report

Larry Martin
"An Eastern Mennonite University spokesman said Monday that Larry Martin has submitted his resignation," read a Sept. 21 Daily News Record (DNR) article by DNR sportswriter Michael Rothstein.
The "spokesman" referred to by Rothstein was EMU sports information director Kevin Warner, who denies this. "I did not say that," Warner told the Weather Vane, "They fabricated a story."
In the DNR article and a more recent statement, Martin has been consistent in his stance. "I haven't resigned or been asked to resign," he said. Asked whether he will be staying at EMU, he said, "It's hard to tell what the future might bring."
So did the DNR really print a "fabrication?" Warner doesn't seem to be the only Athletics Department employee who thinks so. Track coach Seth McGuffin and basketball coach Kirby Dean told the Weather Vane that the DNR article misinterpreted their words by reporting that both McGuffin and Dean "confirmed Martin's resignation."
McGuffin said, "I didn't tell [Rothstein] that there was a resignation letter or anything."
Reporter Michael Rothstein said he had to consult with his boss before discussing the DNR article. After doing this, his only statement was, "I'm standing by my story."
