Depp Pleasurable

Johnny Depp plays the playwright James Matthew Barrie in Finding Neverland, CAC's movie selection for this coming weekend. The movie follows the life of Barrie as he interacts with the family that inspired him to write his most famous play: Peter Pan.

Fresh off a flop of a play, Barrie takes to the park to gain inspiration for what he hopes will be a more successful production. There he meets a widow, Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (played by Kate Winslet), and her four boys, George, Michael, Peter, and Jack. Barrie forms a close bond with Sylvia, and his adventures with her children inspire him to continue writing.

However, the town does not approve of his new, close connection with the Llewelyn Davies family, nor does Barrie's wife. Barrie ignores the accusations and instead creates his most successful stage production: Peter Pan, the story of a boy who never grows up.

Finding Neverland is, in general, a pleasant movie; and with its PG rating, is also a pleasurable change from the violence and sex that are prevalent in most movies today. Humorous at some points and touching at others, Finding Neverland walks a fine line between reality and imagination, and also gives the viewer some insight to the man behind Peter Pan.
