Men rout Baptist
Casey Armstrong and Chad Thornton combined for nine RBIs as the men's baseball team defeated Baptist Bible College by a score of 17-0 Monday afternoon in non-conference play.
Starting pitcher sophomore Joshua Pfeifer (1-1) pitched five strong innings for the Royals allowing only one hit while striking out five. Pfeifer gave way to senior Jerry Shank who pitched two innings, striking out three to close out the game for EMU (7-10).
Armstrong, a senior from Remington, Va. finished the day going 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Senior Chad Thornton went 2-for-2 from the dish with four RBIs and a run scored. Junior Zach Hawke was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Royals while junior catcher Kenny Riley scored three times while adding another three RBIs for EMU.
Freshman Nate Francis relieved starting pitcher Kyle Hardenbrook (0-1) and pitched four innings for the Defenders. Francis went 2-for-3 from the plate for Baptist Bible (2-1).
The Royals game against Randolph-Macon on Wednesday was postponed. They are scheduled to host Piedmont in a non-conference game at 3 o'clock today.
