This past weekend, three teams of EMU students competed in the Mathematical Competition in Modeling, an international event with over 800 particpating teams. Each three-member team was given a choice of two open-ended problems on Thursday night at 8:01 p.m., and had until Monday at 8 p.m. to submit a response. Teams put in an average of 12 hours per day in the Science Center working on their solutions. Above, junior Karie Smucker, sophomore Rachel Sims, and junior Micheal Horst work on their problem, which involved the amount of water leaving a dam. The other problem involved the optimal number of toll booths that should be present on a turnpike.
