Letter to the Editors:

Unfair comparison

Although I appreciated and enjoyed the recent Weather Vane article about Shekinah, I was disappointed by the comparisons made between Shekinah and Sons of the Day, and the implication that I do not consider Sons of the Day to be a ministry. In fact, one of the things I appreciate most about Sons of the Day is their passion and commitment to ministering through their music, no matter what venue they are performing in. The fact that Sons of the Day is a professional group in no way detracts from their ability to minister and in many ways adds to it.

Although they do generally charge a fee for their performances (one which they have negotiated in the past), the 'Sons' have yet to be paid individually for all of the hours they have spent in rehearsal, traveling, and performing--all of their earnings so far have gone toward group expenses and the CD that they are currently recording.

Since the very beginning, Sons of the Day has had a mission statement (http://www.sonsoftheday.com/news/articles/matt_mission_explain.php) that very articulately expresses their goals as a group and clearly emphasizes ministry as one of the most important of these goals. And if you have been to any of their concerts, then you can see that mission embodied and evident in every aspect of their performance. I have had the opportunity to interact professionally and personally with the members of Sons of the Day, and while I am always impressed with the quality of music they produce, it is the quality of their character, both individual and corporate, that continually ministers to me.
