Playoffs for men’s and women’s outdoor intramural soccer began on Wednesday night on EMU’s turf field. The number one seeded men’s team, Keystone State Squad, took on the number eight seed, Styer’s Team, at 8 p.m. Ranked number two in the men’s division is Gravy, who played the seventh team, Rustic Monarch, at 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Simba faced Beachy’s team and Chebella took on The Choads. Men’s semi-finals will be held at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday. The winners of the 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. match-ups of Wednesday night will face off at 10 p.m., and the winners of the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. games will play at 11 p.m. Finals for the men will be held on Friday night at 10 p.m. on Turf Field 1.
Recently, EMU sophomore Carrie Grandstaff stepped away from a game she has played since elementary school. She’s leaving the basketball court for the wedding chapel, where she’ll marry Steve Owens. She is one of many classmates to drift away from athletics for other passions in life. Last spring I saw the agony that four-time national champion Laura Rosenberger went through as she made the decision to miss the last season of her collegiate career.
