It’s distressing to see assumptions abound on campus, whether they be about other students, faculty, or the generic leadership conglomeration often referred to as the administration. What is it that makes one want to assume the worst? The Weather Vane has been the object of assumptions semester after semester no matter what the personal views of the editors are. Every undergraduate student at EMU is forced to go through a gauntlet of general education courses ranging from faith issues to mathematics. These all seem to have a relevant purpose in building a framework for a successful career and life after college. As we contemplated this idea of building success through education, we came across the Physical Education requirement. We were puzzled; we could not come up with any good reason for this requirement. To give someone a kiss on the cheek, you definitely need a good excuse these days. Hellos and goodbyes are only good enough for your Aunt Mary, and even that can be uncomfortable at times.
