Letter to the Editors:

Kathleen Temple resigns

To the editors-

I am leaving EMU at the end of this semester. Many of you know this already, of course, but I want to say goodbye publicly. I have greatly enjoyed a rewarding and successful eight years of teaching in the Bible and Religion Department and feel optimistic about new leadership here at EMU, but I am ready to move on. (My explanation for quitting has circulated hand to hand fairly widely, but if you are looking for a copy, simply email me at templekj @ emu.edu.) I will miss EMU very much and I will continue to pray that our academic community will grow ever more fully into God's call to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God.

As I finish up my last classes and prepare for graduation, I am thrilled to see that the only remaining "officially-sanctioned" discrimination on this campus, the discrimination against sexual minorities, is being actively challenged by more and more members of the community, on various levels. It seems like rainbows are coming out all over campus all of the sudden! I am grateful to all who are speaking out, demonstrating, writing, and praying in defense of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and allies. May God's Spirit keep leading all of us in love, joy, and peace.

Kathleen Temple
