I am leaving EMU at the end of this semester. Many of you know this already, of course, but I want to say goodbye publicly. I have greatly enjoyed a rewarding and successful eight years of teaching in the Bible and Religion Department and feel optimistic about new leadership here at EMU, but I am ready to move on. It is incumbent upon a parent to instruct her child to brush his teeth, to eat a healthy diet and not to talk to strangers. The reason why a parent has this responsibility is because the child does not know any better. A parent who allows her child to play with a revolver is a negligent parent. Although the child might only hurt himself, the parent has a duty, in fact, a moral obligation not to allow her child to engage in such potentially self-destructive behavior. Read more...
