EMU should not make me go on a cross-cultural. Oh, it’s not that I don’t want to travel to Spain, study in Seville, visit the Alhambra, and learn flamenco. It’s just that this university, this community of Mennonites, has been a more than sufficient cross-cultural for me.
When I first started to get those recruitment pamphlets in the mail from EMU, I took a good long look at the first one and promptly proceeded to chuck it in the trash can (our family doesn’t recycle). "Does life begin at conception?" A bioethics attendee posed this question during Saturday morning’s panel discussion at this past weekend’s Bioethics conference. I immediately became frustrated at the question. I have heard this question many times before. It, along with others, is a question whose intent has no positive value.
