In a campaign launched Wednesday, the EMU community will try to raise $9,000 for local United Way programs.

"We want folks to see this a way to invest locally," said Deanna Durham, EMU's volunteer coordinator. "Act locally, think globally, and act globally too!"

In an all-campus e-mail, Interim President Beryl Brubaker said, "United Way supports many agencies in our community that address a variety of local needs. For instance, dollars contributed to the United Way help fund the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Free Clinic that provides health care for persons without health insurance. The United Way provides an opportunity for all of us who have much to share with others who have little."

The campaign will involve many different activities in which faculty, staff and students may participate, including a Jeans Day, prizes and gift certificates awarded throughout the campaign, and a pizza party for the residence hall that gets their entire floor to donate money to the cause. Additionally, "donation jars will be in the Coffee House, Snack Shop, Book Store, Cafeteria and Business Office," said Durham.
