With upwards of 4,500 visitors annually, the D. Ralph Hostetter Museum of Natural History is anything but deserted. Each year, elementary school students from eight or nine different Virginia and West Virginia counties are attracted to the exhibits and hands-on learning offered by EMU’s very own museum. Though many university students may not even be aware of its existence in the science center, the museum, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, is home to over 6,100 display items and offers interactive tours and workshops to many groups.

These infractions occurred during a “Heaven and Hell” theme party that took place at the house starting Friday, September 21 and continuing into the next morning.

'Burg and Beyond

On Friday, November 2 at 6:15 p.m., Cyndi Gusler’s mosaic at the Massanutten Regional Library will be revealed. Gusler created the mosaic to represent Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird. The project is connected to the library’s The Big Read, which is celebrating and promoting To Kill a Mockingbird. The final Big Read celebration takes place from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and is a free event open to the public. The event aims, as Cyndi Gusler stated, to “[bring] the book to life” for the community and will include dances, theatrical performances, and arts.

Aubrey Bauman, EMU senior and captain of the women’s soccer team for the past two years, is this week’s player of the week. Bauman has started every game this year as a defender and ended the regular season with an overall college career of 29 points, eight goals, and three assists. Bauman said that she had a good time playing defense this year because she “enjoy[ed] winning balls from an opposing forward, stopping their shots and [having] the ability to see the whole field from the back.”

“Tartuffe” is a five-act play in verse, and it’s “absolutely hilarious,” according to freshman Ingrid Johnson, who plays Marianne. Directed by associate theater professor Heidi Winter Vogel, and assistant junior Joy Boardman, the comedy is set in 17th century France and is a classic by Moliere.
