The EMU campus is buzzing with activity as homecoming approaches. Alumni from all over the globe will be migrating back to their alma mater to participate in the ceremonies taking place this weekend. The events begin Friday morning and continue until Sunday, culminating in a morning worship service where Alumnus of the Year Dr. Ingida Asfaw and Distinguished Service Award recipient Dr. Clair Schnupp will be recognized and participate in the service.

Imagine a transformed Campus Center greeting hall; instead of couches and tables for studying, picture a low-light open floor surrounded by décor of black and red backdrop with shimmering foil highlights. Then feel the energetic beat of Latin music, and you may be able to construe a small sense of the LSA-CAC annual dance.

With no sleep for over 24 hours, our Summer 2007 cross cultural group of 20 members arrived safely in Fez, Morocco. Exhausted from lack of sleep and hot from our long sleeves and long pants, we made our way to a hotel where we were instructed to not leave the building alone. Surrounded by a culture waiting to be experienced, we were ready to learn.

Our tree is gone. For what purpose, no one knows. Was it anger at the administration that destroyed the only shade on that side of the Quad? Was it a prank that brought down the noble elm? I would argue that it was inappropriate in either sense. What happened to the Quad was, plain and simple, an act of vandalism. This has no place on our campus.

This upcoming weekend is filled with action-packed games with volleyball, field hockey, and two men and women’s soccer games in celebration of Eastern Mennonite University’s 90th year.

Dodge the plasma grenades and watch out for Scorpion Tanks—Halo 3 has hit shelves. Buckle your seat belts ladies and gentleman; we’re in for quite a magnificent ride. Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 launched September 25 and has since sold over 5.2 million copies, grossing $170 million in the first 24 hours. This magnitude of this game set world records in volume sales and gross profit for a video game; it even has a soft drink designed in its honor.
