Volleyball Opens Well Despite Injuries, Inexperience

While the first-ever intramural lacrosse game was played on the other side of the gym, the men’s volleyball team won their home opener against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in thrilling fashion. The game, which was played on Thursday, Jan. 17, drew over 300 people, the largest crowd to watch an EMU men’s volleyball game in recent history. Drawn by the hype, the crowd was infected with the enthusiasm and energy of the Royals, especially during the climactic fourth set, which EMU finally won 41-39. They went on to win the fifth set 15-12, securing the match.

Lacrosse Intramurals Overcome Lack of Experienced Players

At about the same time EMU’s LOST junkies sit down for a repeat of their favorite show, the Scoop Doggs will host the Faculty/Staff team in intramural lacrosse. In its first season as an intramural sport, lacrosse offers a fun alternative to those of us who never got too good at the “bump, set, spike” deal. Many students are enjoying learning a new sport, and with 50 players spread over four teams, fans and players alike are almost ensured that no game will end in forfeit due to a lack of players.
