Those who have always wanted to throw out their colloquium, change First Year Seminar (FYS) or skip Senior Seminar may soon get a chance to realize their dreams. The Global Village Curriculum (GVC) has entered a period of re-evaluation and restructuring and student input is one of the next steps on the agenda. Even though the current GVC is only a few years old, the call has come to assess its effectiveness and plan a course for the future. “We are always looking at improving student learning,” said Beth Aracena, Associate Dean for Curriculum and chair of the GVC Committee.

When restaurants are discussed on campus, the adjective “Thai” typically brings to mind Taste of Thai, that favorite of parent-student dinner dates. Thai Flavor, however, located on 51 Kenmore Street, right off of 33 near the on ramp of U.S. 81, challenges and quite possibly usurps its supremacy in the realm of Harrisonburg Pan-Asian cuisine.

The Global Village Curriculum has been flawed in some shape or form for a long time, and there are few, if any, who would argue that change is not needed. However, it is imperative that we identify the positive aspects of GVC over the past few years and retain them while we seek to rid ourselves of the ineffective and irrelevant.

Sports

Many people on campus are aware of and enjoy the intercollegiate and intramural sports that take place on and off EMU campus. This is obviously evident in the crowds of people who come out to cheer on a Field Hockey ODAC Championship or go to Lancaster to watch the men’s and women’s soccer teams battle with Goshen. In intramurals, people who participate in the games continually increase, and the onlookers increase as they scout out who could be the next “champions.” What many people do not know is that EMU also offers a wide variety of indoor fitness classes, such as Aerobics, Yogalates, and Aikido.
